In Sub-Saharan African countries, malnutrition is a disease that still kills today. In countries afflicted by severe drought, conflicts and displacement, access to food is one of the greatest difficulties and families are unable to guarantee their children a complete and regular diet.
Younger children, aged between 0 and 5, who too often risk their lives, pay the price.
Jamilah is an 18-month-old girl who is struggling to survive. When she reached the doctors at our clinic, she was nearly lifeless due to a severe intestinal infection linked to malnutrition. Like Jamilah, there are so many children who need our help. Many of them arrive at our Health Centers thanks to the work of our operators who go to the most remote villages to check the health of the children who would otherwise remain without treatment.
As soon as they arrive at our Center, we give the little ones water and sugar and protein-based food that allows them to regain weight in a few days and get out of the critical phase; at the same time we treat diseases such as malaria and intestinal infections which can be fatal for malnourished children.
The support to mothers that we guarantee during their stay at the Center is also very important: only in this way can they acquire the necessary knowledge to take care of their baby and other children when they return home.
Malnutrition leads to death but together it can be fought. Help us save a child's life!
