It was around 6 pm on 4 August when Beirut was devastated by an explosionof which the newspapers and the television reported tragic images.
Matteo Crosetti, COOPI Coordinator for the Middle East, located in Beirut, remembers that moment like this: "A loud roar was heard throughout the city and a shock wave hit up to 20 kilometers away from the port, where the explosion occurred, causing enormous damage in the entire port area but also in the residential areas where houses and buildings were destroyed ".
To date there are 150 victims, 150 people missing and over 5.000 people injured. Furthermore, there are an estimated 300.000 men, women and children who no longer have a home. The images of this disaster leave you speechless.
Faced with this new emergency, the COOPI staff on site immediately took action: together with our partner, the Lebanese NGO Mada, we are bringing hot meals, sandwiches, fruit and vegetables to the population. The conditions in which these families find themselves are dramatic and emergency aid is essential to guarantee water and food to the survivors. emergency aid is essential to guarantee water and food to the survivors.
Over the next 15 days we want to provide hot meals to 600 people every day and food packages to at least 200 families who have lost everything. Like this, we will bring help to over 12.000 people in the neighborhoods of Karantina, Mar Mikhael, Marfa and Gemmayzeh.
To do all this we need help: donate now to guarantee your support to the victims of this tragic explosion.
With 25 chf you provide a food package to 1 family and with chf 50 you provide a hot meal to 10 people for a week.
