On 18 July 2018, on the occasion of his trip to Niger, the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, had the opportunity to visit one of the temporary homes for refugees and asylum seekers supported by the UNHCR and managed by COOPI’s international network in the capital Niamey, where he was welcomed by representatives of the Agency and the NGO.
After a brief presentation of the structure and activities carried out on site, Tajani met some of the guests of the house, mainly from Libya and of Somali, Sudanese and Eritrean nationalities. Touched by their stories of violence and suffering – heard in person -, Tajani expressed his solidarity with the women, emphasizing the need to provide them with care and attention: “we are your friends. I know you have met a bad world. But they are not all like that. We want to help you “.
