The Radiotelevisione svizzera (RSI) has oranized a public meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on Tuesday 22 May at 6.00 pm at the Stelio Molo Auditorium in Lugano regarding the topic of Humanitarian Emergency.
There are over 65 million refugees and displaced people in the world. An extreme emergency that involves every corner of the planet: from Europe to the Middle East, from Africa to Latin America. In the foreground, situations of war and poverty like Eritrea, Afghanistan, Syria and Myanmar. The number of people supported by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is impressive: 22 million, half of whom are under the age of 18. The High Commissioner Filippo Grandi has consecrated his existence to the service of those who are forced to abandon their homeland. As a very young volunteer in Southeast Asia, Grandi dedicated his commitment to the most serious crises in recent world history, taking over the leadership of the UNHCR in 2016, a humanitarian organization active in 130 countries with 10,000 employees. Over thirty years of experience in dealing with difficulties, limited resources and hopes, but always with passion, tenacity and conviction, with the aim of containing the consequences of violence, of alleviating suffering and of fighting against the appalling injustices that accompany every conflict.
This is a rare opportunity to listen to the person who, since 2016, has been called by the international community to manage one of the biggest and most dramatic problems of our time.
