Ethiopia, Oromia Region, Bale area, districts of Rayitu,  Dawe Kachen, Gura Damole, Barbere and Meda Wollabu

 

The four-year program that COOPI is implementing in the area, in partnership with other international NGOs (Danish Church Aid – Denmark, Action for Development – Ethiopia, Lutheran World Federation for World Service – Switzerland, Save the Children – UK), intends to increase resilience and economic opportunities in areas prone to drought, in the mountain area of Bale.

 

 

 

 

The program provides an integrated approach to achieve the following objectives:

 

  • Greater access to safe water sources and improvement in hygiene habits
  • Diversification in breeding livestock and other related economic opportunities
  • Greater access to quality healthcare services
  • Greater access to quality nutrition services
  • Improvement of local communities’ and institutions’ skills in risk management and when responding to natural disasters
  • Protection of the most vulnerable communities during crisis situations

 

Specifically, COOPI Suisse intends to contribute in fighting against malnutrition, as well as in the WASH program:

 

  • Improvement and extension of existing water systems (5 plants, for a total of 9,726 beneficiaries)
  • Supply of livestock such as goats and chickens to families who live in situations of  severe and chronic malfunctioning (4450 goats and 2225 chickens, totaling 2,670 beneficiaries)
